Ferran Carvajal Thorus Arts 2

FERRAN CARVAJAL is an actor, dancer, choreographer, producer and director who has presented his work in live theatre, opera, film, and television.   A catalyst for new creation, Ferran uses his extensive experience and technical precision to empower the vision of Thorus Arts, to transform ideas into action.

Ferran often works in a cross-disciplinary fashion, taking-on several roles in artistic collaborations.   For example, in Krum (2014) and La Nostra Clase (2011) as choreographer and actor, with the director Carme Portacheli.  Or in Tragèdia (2011) and Juli Cèsar (2003) as choreographer and actor with the director Àlex Rigola.  Ferran presented Goldberg (2008), a physical theatre interpretation of the Goldberg Variations of J.S Bach, directing, choreographing, and performing in the project.

Other theatre and opera highlights include; L’Estranger (2013) as actor, La Traviata (2013) and Anna Bolena (2011) as choreographer, Sta. Joana Dels Excorxadors (2006) as actor and choreographer, El Beso de la Muher Araña (2004) and Unes Polariods Explicites (2001) as actor.

Recent work in film includes directing the short Tornem-hi! (2013), the first production of a twelve-part series written by psycho-oncologists and titled Píndoles Isocràtiques.  The project focuses on the struggles of those affected by cancer, and this first chapter earned best actor and best actress honors at the Girona Film Festival.

For five seasons Ferran was part of the cast of El Cor de la Cuitat (2000-2007), the television series of TV3, with interpretation of the character Narcís that earned him the Premio Especial APEI-Catalunya.  Ferran also interpreted the character of Robert during three seasons of Infidels (2009), another TV3 production.

Ferran’s formation includes interpretation studies at the Festino Barocco Studio, Barcelona with Txiki Berraondo and Manuel C. Lillo, and later physical theatre studies with Lloyd Newson and Lyan Styl of DV8 Physical Theatre, London.  These interests led to further explorations of various techniques of integration corporal, voice studies, and yoga, and later work with Àngels Margarit Cia. Mudances in Térbola (1998) and La Fura dels Baus in El Martirio de San Sebastian (1997) and L’Atlàntida (1996).
